For many generations now, the Kirch family of winegrowers in Fahr am Main has been working in the vineyard. Their own winery was built in the 1970s in the immediate vicinity of sunlit vineyards, and recently the wine connoisseur, accompanied by time and leisure, can sit on the new outdoor terrace in the middle of the vines. Monika and Matthias Kirch lead the winery into the future after a generational change. They remain true to the motto of the traditional Kirch house, which is "determination, passion and constant striving for the best quality".
In order to continue to position the winery on the market with a secure future and to signal their confidence in the future of their own business and proven expertise, the Kirchs had a new vinotheque built above the terrace located to the south of the existing building. This pavilion now actually makes its mark in Fahr and beyond the wine village. The architects opted for a steel-and-glass construction to make the new tasting pavilion appear light and transparent, like the bridge on a modern Main freighter. Interior and exterior were to merge, and the light sail roof over the glass house naturally allows an association with the phrase "to set sail" - a metaphor, then, of man's optimism for the future. Lastly, and this is where the significance of the steel pylon with gold ball placed diagonally under the cantilevered sail roof comes into its own, Freya Kirch, the daughter of Monika and Matthias Kirch, was crowned wine princess of Fahr. If she emulates her mother, she could possibly soon ascend the throne of the Franconian wine queen. For Monika Kirch, a native of Kram, was the Franconian wine queen and German wine princess from 1984 to 1986. The architects also like to see the structurally necessary steel support under the steel grate, which is clad in sheet metal on both sides and bent to form a roof sail, as a symbol for an anchor with its point in the vineyard and in the tradition of the Kirch winery.
