terroir f Thüngersheim

Wine from science

The terroir f centered around wine and science rises strikingly above the shell limestone banks in the "Thüngersheimer Scharlachberg". At its center is the Vinomax, a striking building, whose designation comes from the term "Audimax" for the largest lecture hall of a university. It represents both its relationship to wine as well as to research and education - the central tasks of the Bavarian State Institute for Viticulture and Horticulture in Veitshöchheim (LWG).

The spectacular architecture of the building, which was constructed entirely of wood, is reminiscent of a snail shell and was inspired by the shape of the 200-million-year-old lead fossil "Ceratit Nodosus". The Vinomax was embedded in a show and educational wine garden, which represents the history of the Silvaner and international grape varieties. Inside the Vinomax, guests can learn more about the research work of the LWG in words and pictures. In addition, the vineyard site itself is a focus of research work around the topics of biodiversity, climate change, steep slope management, and new and old grape varieties.
