terroir f Thüngersheim

Divine encounters in the vineyard

Anyone who climbs up to this terroir f will find themselves in the midst of Greek mythology. Visitors are welcomed by the goddess Ariadne, who is featured as a large bronze sculpture on a stone pedestal. A magnificent sight, which inspires dedication to the topic "wine and mythology" at this magical place. For example, one learns why Ariadne, of all people, enjoys the sun above the "Thüngersheimer Johannisberg" vineyard. After all, she actually became famous for her "red thread" with which she helped Theseus to find his way out of the Minotaur's labyrinth.

But Ariadne's story goes even further. Theseus did not marry the princess – but instead she was married to Dionysus, the god of wine, and rose to become the first wine queen in history. Dionysus also honors this magical place with his presence as a bronze sculpture. On his shoulders he carries his and Ariadne's son Oenopion, the first vintner in Greek mythology.
