High above the oldest wine town in Franconia, in the Hammelburg Heroldsberg vineyard, is the Magic Place of Franconian Wine. Franconian winegrowing was first mentioned here in a document in the year 777. Four architecturally designed audio guide stops bring the varied history of Franconian wine to life in words and pictures. They tell of the beginnings in the monasteries, a medieval heyday, many economic crises, plagues by diseases and pests, but also of the reconstruction and renewal of viticulture in the last century to the redesign of the Bocksbeutels. A wonderful view into the old town of Hammelburg which is surrounded by walls and towers, over to Saaleck Castle and into the hilly landscape of the Rhön, make this place very unique.
