Bürgerspital Weingut Weinhaus

Bürgerspital Weingut (Würzburg, Fränkisches Weinland)

In 2021, the “Weinhaus unterm Glockenspiel” celebrated its 10th anniversary in its current form. From three previously separate institutions, the "total package" wine house has emerged, as the classic wine sales, the vinotheque and the traditional Hockerle (tap) were united here under one roof in a central location. The interior design and furnishings reflect the style of the Bürgerspital wines: shell limestone, wood and straight lines and shapes dominate. Those who know their wines know that these components characterize the purist wine style. The wine house also enjoys an excellent reputation beyond the region, and this has been confirmed by the German Wine Institute (DWI) in Mainz: the wine house was one of the top 30 vinotheques in 2021 within the 13 German wine-growing regions.

In 2016, the Bürgerspital zum Hl. Geist in Würzburg celebrated its 700th anniversary. The foundation was established in 1316 by the Würzburg patrician couple Johannes and Mergardis von Steren, who at the time donated their private estate into an institution for people in need of care. Over the following centuries, the Bürgerspital experienced numerous endowments and is now one of the oldest foundations in Germany. Today, the Bürgerspital also owns 120 hectares of vineyards, often enough in the steepest locations. The wines that are produced from these vineyards are among the best that Franconia has to offer. In the Weinhaus unterm Glockenspiel, the wine connoisseur can try top quality wines.
