Weingut Staatlicher HofkellerWürzburg
Vineyard size: 120 hectares
The Würzburger Hofkeller has every right to claim being the oldest wine estate in Germany. Since the 12th century, it has been owned and operated by the political rulers of the time: The bishops of Würburg who also were the dukes of Franconia at the same time, the Bavarian kings, for a brief time the Grand Duke Ferdinand von Toskana (1806-1814), and now the State of Bavaria. The uninterrupted wine-making tradition is continued dutifully to this day; the heritage is preserved; and the future looks bright.
